- Abstract : The name M. rosacea is a synonym of M. balbisiana, but has priority. However, the former name has been very rarely used correctly, whereas the name M. balbisiana is widely used for a species important to banana breeders as an ancestor to, and source of resistance for, cultivated edible bananas. To stabilise Musa nomenclature and avoid the confusion that would result from changing the name of this well-known banana species, we propose to conserve M. balbisiana against M. rosacea under Art. 14 of the ICBN. Outright rejection of M. rosacea under Art. 56 is an alternative nomenclatural solution that has not been proposed here.
